Moimenta

Moimenta, a toponym that also usually refers to stones, although in principle with a different purpose. In this case they are megaliths, dolmens, tumuli or archaeological remains. Like Monumenta in Zamora, it comes from the plural of the Latin monumentum ‘commemorative erection’. This type of ‘monuments’ are not uncommon in various places in the vicinity of the Raya. In Rosal de la Frontera, on the road to Aroche, there is a cromlech. In Zarza la Mayor there are a large number of dolmens, including the one known as Pata de Buey. Near El Pino and Jola, in the municipality of Valencia de Alcántara (Cáceres), there is also a dolmen called El Mellizo; a little further north, also in the municipality of Valencia de Alcántara and next to the Raya, there is another dolmen: El Fragoso; these dolmens are named after the estate where they are located. There are numerous dolmens and megalithic remains in the municipal district of Cedillo: La Joaninha, La Tierra Caída I and II, Los de la Regañada, Los cuatro Lindones, El Molino de Viento, La Fuente Sevillana, La Cruz de la Mujer I and II, among others. And we could go on and on with other places in the area.
